Sister Ruth Esther Sherman July 9, 1999 Dear Family and friends, My visit with my family was wonderful. Glenda, Claudia and Patricia Ann arrived from Dallas to New York City on Thurs. Victor and Cecilia live in N.Y. On the following Sat. they all drove up to a little town Near Endicott. There was a big picnic for one of the Grandson's Graduation from High School. All but one of Aunt Helen and Uncle Willie's chilren and families were there. Jesse from Seattle also came. He is one of my brother John's sons. We spent the night at Cousin Nancy's in Ouaquagua (next little town after Windsor). Patricia, Victor amd Jesse had to leave early Sun, A.M. to be back to work on Mon. Glenda, Claudia and Cecilia rented a car after Mass and went to a picnic that Cousin Lila had planned in her big yard and garden. All of Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Ben's children and families were there, three of Uncle Ralph's daughters were there also. I hadn't seen them in almost 60 years. Then we went to the Old Homestead where I was born. One of my cousins, Charlie Sherman who was born there still lives there. He is a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade. He and his wife redid the inside of the house. They couldn't put insulation on the inside so they decided to put it on the outside and when they took the siding off they discovered that the newspapers that had been put on for insulation (a common practice in those days) - let's put it this way, one headline read "Abraham Lincoln, nominated for President". The photo above was taken in 1959. The home was built by my grandfather Schuyler Van Unsler Sherman. Many more interesting things took place. My program won't take much at a time so I'll close for now. Love to All, Aunt Mary, Sis, Sr. Ruth Esther, Maria Here are two 2004 photos of the Sherman Homestead on Sherman Hill Road, Afton:
