HOME SEARCH. 1886 Floyd William Dutcher Born: Jan. 31, 1886 at McDonough, Chenango County, NY Died: May 25, 1963 at Afton, Chenango County, NY at age 77 He is buried at Eastside Cemetery in Afton, Chenango County, NY. His father was 1860 James Arnold Dutcher. His mother was 1871 Jennie Jane White. In the 1900 and 1910 census records Floyd was living in McDonough, Chenango County, NY. McDonough is near Norwich. Floyd was married Nov. 8, 1917 to 1897 Gertrude Gail Roberts; they had these two children together: 1919 Homer Edwin Dutcher 1921 Herbert F. Dutcher
In 1920, Floyd and Gertrude, together with baby Homer, were living with Gertrude's parents, Edwin and Mary Roberts, on East Side River Road in Afton, Chenango County, New York. The household consisted of: 1858 Edwin R. Roberts (Head of Household) 1861 Mary E. Roberts (Wife) 1886 Floyd Dutcher (Son-In-Law) 1899 Gertrude Roberts Dutcher (Daughter) 1919 Homer E. Dutcher (Grandson) 1860 James A. Dutcher (Father of Floyd; Homer's other Grandfather) 1904 Viola Dutcher (daughter of 1860 James; sister of Floyd; aunt of Homer and Herbert) He was later married before 1940 to 1906 Minnie Estella Burt. Both had children from previous marriages. Minnie was apparently previously married to a man named "Parks". The 1940 census for Chenango County, NY lists: Floyd W. Dutcher age 54 Head Minnie E. Dutcher age 33 Wife (Nee Burt) Leonard A. Parks age 9 Step-son Louise B. Dutcher age 5 Daughter (Homer's half-sister?)
I am not certain that Minnie E. Burt was Floyd's wife, but there was a death notice for Charlie W. Burt of Guilford, NY in the Bainbridge newspaper dated Feb. 27, 1947 which stated that the deceased left behind a daughter, Mrs. Floyd Dutcher. Mr. Burt died Feb. 22, 1947 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. Mrs. Dutcher was living in Sherburne at that time. I believe that she was the second wife of Floyd W. Dutcher. Update in December 2020: all of the above paragraph is correct. The residence is listed as "Rogers Street", Chenango County, NY. It is not clear yet whether Rogers Street is in Norwich or in McDonough, which at one point split off from Norwich. There is considerable information about early Norwich and McDonough and also Preston at: Chenango History Book. McDonough is just a few miles west of Norwich, in Chenango County, NY. Guilford and Sherburne are also both near Norwich. JAS
