HOME SEARCH1832 Daniel Wood Born: July 22, 1832 at Colchester, Conn. Died: Nov. 16, 1903 at East Douglas, Mass. He is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery at Northbridge, MA. His father was 1806 Ezra Wood. His mother was 1806 Elizabeth Fuller. He was married to 1840 Mary Amanda Slade on March 22, 1855 at Plainfield, CT, in a double ceremony with his sister, 1836 Jane C. Wood and 1828 William Judson Sherman. Mary Amanda Slade was born Jan. 12, 1840 and died Apr. 2, 1909. They had five children together: George E. Wood Charles H. Wood Arthur Wood a daughter, name unknown, who married Burton S. Hill Mary Wood (she married Robert Britton) All were living in Whitinsville, MA at the time of Daniel's death. Mary Amanda's father was a moulder and was in Plainfield, CT doing work for the Whitin Machine Works. They all went to Whitinsville (Massachusetts) later. Daniel's death certificate lists "Elizabeth Fuller" as his mother. Daniel went whaling; he left Connecticut and ended up off the coast of Hawaii in 1851. He Joined the USS St. Lawrence in 1852 and spent time off the west coast of South America. He deserted the Navy in Panama and went home. Daniel served in the US Civil War. He enlisted Sep. 6, 1862 at Providence, RI in Co. "C", 7th Regiment Rhode Island Volunteers; he was discharged June 9, 1865 - was a moulder - and he was sick a good bit of the time in the service. He was at the Battle of Fredericksburg and in Mississippi. He lost his hearing at Fredericksburg. Here is a photo of his tombstone.. Daniel Wood's Obituary, which lists relatives including Mary (Wood) Britton and Asahel F. Wood. Also notes that 'when a boy he took a notion to go to sea and shipped aboard a whaling vessel called the "Isaac Hicks", bound for the Arctic regions...he was on her 18 months, his brother Cornelius sailing with him.
